弊社が主に取り扱うのは日本画である。
日本画は、顔料や墨、膠、絹、紙、筆などの古来からある素材を使い描く、
世界に類を見ない長い伝統を誇る絵画様式である。
この様式を受け継いだのは日本だけであり、日本が世界に誇る伝統文化である。
日本画にとって、日本の風土は過酷である。　
日本画の素材は脆く、染みやカビ、剥落などが
起きやすく湿気や乾燥、
四季の変化などにおいて
実に脆弱ではあるが、
儚さ、脆さ故の美しさという日本人独特の美意識で、後世に残すべく専門家の修復などを経て、
日本画を今日まで守り続けてきたのだ。
そして、これから先、未来においても、
この世界で唯一の伝統ある文化を守り続けていかなくてはならない…

Our company mainly deals with Japanese paintings.
Japanese paintings are one of the unique forms of painting in the world, where it still uses materials
from the ancient period, such as pigments and ink, nikawa animal glue, silk, paper and brushes.
Japan was the only country in the world to inherit this style, and it is a traditional culture that this
country is proud of.
The climate in Japan is harsh for Japanese paintings.
Materials used in Japanese paintings are delicate. Stains, moulds and deterioration occur easily. It is
also very sensitive to changes in season such as humidity and dryness.
But fragility and brittleness is considered as a unique sense of beauty in Japan. Repairs have been done
by specialists to hand down and protect this tradition for future generations.
From now, and towards the future, we must protect this one and only traditional culture in the world.

先代夏目四郎

Predecessor Shiro Natsume

1968年(昭和43年)に代表取締役就任。
生前は革新的なアイデアと人望の厚さから日本美術界の第一線で活躍。
現代においてもその影響力は今なお語り継がれている。
「人生は五分の真面目に二分の侠気残り三分は茶目で暮らせよ」

During his lifetime, his revolutionary ideas and respect from others, placed him at the forefront of the world in Japanese Arts.
His influence is still passed down today.
‘Live your life, 50% seriously, 20% chivalrously, and the remaining 30% in mischief ‘

代表取締役社長夏目進

President and CEO Susumu Natsume

2006年(平成18年)に代表取締役就任。
元プロ野球選手という肩書を持ちつつも、33歳にて美術の世界に転身。先代との二人三脚で夏目美術店を大きく発展させる。一般社団法人全国美術商連合会副会長や日本ハムファイターズOB会副会長などを歴任し、多方面で活躍。

From a professional baseball player, he changed to the world of art at the age of 33. He had worked closely with his predecessor and developed the Natsume Art Gallery. He has been active in various roles such as the Vice President of the General Incorporated Japan Art Dealers’ Association, and the Vice President of the Japan Ham Fighters Alumni Association.
